Restoration
Restoration of the site will involve re-profiling the limestone material extracted during the phased operation. Once the backfill re-profiling is complete, the site will be restored to agricultural land with an emphasis on biodiversity.
During the extraction process, no other material other than fluorspar ore will be transported to Cavendish Mill for processing. Although limestone will need to be extracted to access the fluorspar deposits, this will be retained on site and used in progressive and final restoration.
The changes to the site as a result of the fluorspar extraction will be mitigated and the restoration proposals will provide an opportunity for greater biodiversity, such as the creation of new habitats for protected species, including new ponds for great crested newts, bat caves, and the retention of cliff faces for bird nesting.
Bridleways and footpaths will be reinstated to original locations during the final restoration process to reinstate public access. In addition, bridleways and footpaths that are currently diverted will be re-diverted, but retained at the end of the development to improve public access.
