Remediation
Glebe Mines recognises the unique qualities of the Peak District National Park and the sensitivity of the Park to mineral extraction.
Glebe Mines operates to the principle of sustainable development, providing well-paid jobs in a rural environment. It contributes to the social well-being of communities within the National Park whilst working to achieve a high level of environmental protection.
As with existing sites, Glebe Mines is committed to securing an ongoing supply of fluorspar ore, whilst minimising the environmental impact of all its operations and those of its suppliers.
Consequently, the planning application to extend the Tearsall open pit proposes the extraction of 660,00 tonnes of fluorspar ore over a six year period, during which progressive restoration will take place behind the active workings. Once mineral extraction is complete, further remediation for one year will restore the area to a state similar to its former appearance.
Extraction will take place over five phases, each approximately 14 months in duration, with progressive remediation throughout. Members of the development team will be on hand during the public exhibition to explain in detail the remediation process.
A ‘Fly Through’ of the extraction and restoration process will be also be available to view at the public exhibition. If you would like to request a copy of the ‘Fly Through’ on CD Rom, please click on the link below.
