Glebe Mines & INEOS Fluor

Glebe Mines currently operates the Cavendish Mill processing plant near Stoney Middleton in the Peak District National Park. It is the only producer of indigenous fluorspar in the UK, supplying the UK Chemical Industry with bulk dried acid fluorspar.

Glebe Mines supplies high quality fluorspar to INEOS Fluor, which is used to manufacture fluorine compounds.These are are used in essential everyday products such as refrigerators, asthma inhalers, mobile phones, non-stick cookware and ‘fluoride’ toothpaste.

INEOS Fluor purchased Glebe Mines in November 2007 and is the UK’s largest producer of fluorochemicals with its main manufacturing site located at Runcorn in Cheshire.

Glebe Mines is INEOS Fluor’s primary supplier, but the current operation is threatened and is dependent on securing permission for extraction of fluorspar at Tearsall.
