The Proposals
Glebe Mines has submitted a planning application to the Peak District National Park Authority for the extraction of fluorspar. This will extend the existing Tearsall open pit on Bonsall Moor.
Tearsall is located on the northern facing edge of Bonsall Moor overlooking the Derwent Valley. The site is located directly to the north of Tearsall Farm, approximately 3.6km to the West of Matlock in Derbyshire and is accessed from Bonsall Lane via an exisiting track.
The proposals would involve the extraction of approximately 660,000 tonnes of fluorspar ore over a six-year period, during which there will be progressive restoration. On completion of the works, the site will be fully restored to agricultural use over a 12 month period with the retention of features that will encourage biodiversity.
The site will operate from 7am – 5.30pm, Monday – Friday, and Saturday mornings between 7am – 12.30pm.
The current planning application is a modified version of a scheme which was submitted by Glebe Mines in July 2007. This application was withdrawn in December 2007 to incorporate comments made by statutory and non-statutory consultees and to undertake a fundamental review of the scheme.
The scheme has been amended with a reduced proposed working area, and an enhanced restoration scheme with significant environmental benefits.
